Every trade business is different.
You might be starting to get busier and need the financial side set up properly. You might already have plenty of work coming in, but feel you don’t have a clear enough picture of profit, cashflow or which jobs are really paying. Or you may simply want someone to take the bookkeeping off your hands and give you useful insight into the numbers at the same time.
That’s why I don’t start with a one-size-fits-all package.
I start by understanding where your business is right now, what bookkeeping and financial information you already have in place, and what kind of support would make the biggest difference.

Get In Touch
The first step is simply to have a quick chat.
I’ll ask about your business, the type of work you do, how you currently manage the bookkeeping and where things feel unclear or difficult at the moment.
You don’t need to have everything organised before we speak. In fact, many business owners get in touch because they know they need better visibility — they’re just not sure what kind of support they need yet.

I look at what you already have
Before recommending anything, I want to understand what’s already in place.
That might include your bookkeeping, invoicing, records, software and the financial information you currently rely on to make decisions.
Where possible, I work with what you already have. The aim is to get a clearer, more reliable picture of sales, costs, profit and cashflow — without making things more complicated than they need to be.

We decide what support would help most
Once I understand the current position, I’ll recommend the support I think will be most useful. That might be putting stronger financial foundations in place.
It might mean taking over your bookkeeping and providing regular analysis alongside it.
Or you may already have good bookkeeping in place and simply need someone to look more closely at performance, margins, costs,and the areas that are driving – or limiting- profit.

Hi, I’m Elaine Smith, founder of Business FiTT .
I help owner-managed trade and service businesses get better control of their finances — from keeping the bookkeeping up to date to understanding what the numbers are actually saying about profit, cashflow and job performance.
My approach is practical. I’m interested in what is really happening in the business month to month — not just what appears in the year-end accounts long after the decisions have been made.
Although my own professional background started in healthcare, I’ve grown up around trades and family-run businesses. My father had his own joinery business, and other close family members have built businesses in construction and kitchens, so the pace, pressures and realities of running this type of business have always been familiar to me.
My work brings together bookkeeping, business finance and financial analysis. The aim is not simply to keep your records tidy, but to give you clearer information about where the money is going, what is making money and what needs attention.
