Business Insight and Review

You already have a bookkeeper but you want the analysis.

You have the numbers- now let's use them to improve your business.

Your bookkeeping may already be well managed. Your accountant may provide regular accounts. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting the financial information you need to make good business decisions.

My Business Insights & Reviews service is designed for established business owners who want to understand what’s driving their financial results, identify where improvements can be made and make more informed decisions about the future of their business.

I work alongside your existing bookkeeper, turning the financial and operational information you already have into clear insight and practical recommendations.

If we need to track other KPI’s for staff productivity, sales or marketing I can build a system to do that. All reports would be discussed and analysed at our quarterly business review coaching sessions keeping you motivated, energised and focused.

Does this sound familiar ?

If you’re bookkeeping is already taken care of but you want some advice and practical recommendations, then this service is for you.

What I Can Do For Your Business...

1. Help you understand what is driving performance.

Your accounts tell us what happened. The next step is understanding why it happened

I’ll review your financial results and identify the numbers that matter most to the performance of your business.

Depending on your business, this might include:

  • Revenue and revenue growth
  • Gross profit and margins
  • Staff costs as a percentage of revenue
  • Overheads
  • Average value per client.
  • Revenue per staff member
  • Profit trends
  • Cash position
  • Performance against previous periods
  • Performance against agreed targets

Rather than looking at each number in isolation, we’ll look at the relationships between them and what they’re telling us about the business.

These could include:

  • Client numbers
  • New client figures
  • Enquiry levels
  • Conversion rates
  • Average fee or average transaction value
  • Cancellation or DNA rates
  • Revenue per staff member
  • Appointment/diary capacity

For example, if revenue has stopped growing, the solution isn’t necessarily “do more marketing”.

We might discover that enquiries are strong but conversion is falling.

Or that clientt numbers are increasing but average revenue per client is falling.

Or that diaries or workloads are already close to capacity, meaning the real decision is whether to recruit.

Looking at the financial and operational information together helps us identify what is actually driving the result.

2. Help you look beyond the accounts

Financial results are only part of the picture. To understand whats driving those results, we may also need to look at operational measuresfrom within the business.

3. Finding the opportunities to improve profit

The purpose of the analysis isn’t simply to produce reports.

It’s to identify where changes could make a meaningful difference to the financial performance of your business.

That might mean looking at:

  • Pricing and fees
  • Staff costs
  • Capacity and utilisation
  • Cost control
  • Service mix
  • Gross margins
  • Revenue opportunities
  • Client conversion or retention
  • Overheads
  • The financial impact of planned business decisions

We’ll focus on the areas that have the greatest potential impact rather than trying to improve everything at once.

You’ll receive clear observations and practical recommendations so you know where your attention is most likely to make a difference.

Rather than being overwhelmed by reports and spreadsheets, you’ll have a consistent set of numbers that we can track over time.

This makes it much easier to see:

  • What’s improving
  • What’s deteriorating
  • Whether changes you’ve made are working
  • Whether you’re on track to meet your targets
  • Where something needs attention before it becomes a bigger problem

If the information isn’t currently available, I can recommend a simple way of capturing it. Where more substantial setup work is required, this can be completed as a separate Financial Foundations project.

4.Your Business Performance Dashboard

We’ll agree a small number of financial and operational measures that give us a useful picture of how your practice is performing.

These become your key performance indicators.

How it all works

1

We establish where you are now

I’ll review your existing financial information, understand how your business operates and discuss what you’re trying to achieve.

2

We identify the numbers that matter

We’ll agree the financial and operational measures that give us the clearest picture of your business’s performance.

3

I analyse your results

At agreed intervals, I’ll review the information, compare performance over time and identify significant changes, trends and opportunities.

4

You receive clear recommendations

I’ll highlight what’s going well, what needs attention and the areas I believe could have the greatest impact on profitability.

5

We review and refocus

At our regular review, we’ll discuss the findings, agree the priorities and identify what should be monitored before the next review.

Working Alongside your existing accountant or bookkeeper

You don’t need to change accountant or bookkeeper to work with me.

Their role is to make sure your financial records, accounts and tax obligations are properly managed.

My role is different.

I use that financial information — together with relevant information from within your practice — to help you understand performance and make better business decisions.

That means you get more value from the financial information your business is already producing.
